Abstract
Hysteresis in a ferromagnetic material is represented by an idealized elliptical magnetization characteristic that neglects harmonics and enables flux density and magnetizing force, when expressed in terms of phasor vectors, to be related by complex permeability. This concept, together with the assumption that all field quantities have a linear relationship and vary sinusoidally in time and space, is then used to obtain steady-state solutions for electromagnetic field problems in materials including both hysteresis and eddy-current effects. Computed values are determined for the flux distribution and losses in semi-infinite and finite-thickness plates. Keywords
