Abstract
The exptl. and clinical observations reported strengthen the differentiation made by Jarvis between 2 basic types of nasal catarrh: the red "infectious" sympathetic type, and the "pale, vasomotor, allergic" or parasympathetic type. Marked changes can be observed in the nose as the result of exptl. stimulation or interference with its sympathetic nervous supply. Because of this fact and the common occurrence of emotional factors in nasal catarrh, it is suggested that many so-called "colds" are induced by psychic stimuli to the autonomic nervous system. Illustrative case histories are presented. Keywords
