Abstract
A short pulse (30 ps) Nd3+ laser has been used to study the spectrum of second-harmonic emission from a laser produced plasma over a wide range of irradiances. Significant deviations from existing theory are observed and these are tentatively explained by considering the heat-front velocity. The evolution of the spectrum is followed both with and without a prepulse and considerable differences between the two are noted. Keywords
