Abstract
A fundamental relation that the solutions for the state variables of an uncontrollable system must satisfy is obtained. From this relation it is shown that the rank of the controllability matrix and an algebraic transformation which gives the controllability canonical form can easily be deduced. Under this transformation a set of controllable state variables remains invariant. Keywords
