Mucus-Secreting Villous Adenoma of the Colon

Abstract
A RARE, but curable, cause of circulatory collapse in people of middle and late age has recently been managed successfully in a small community hospital. Mucus-secreting villous adenomas of the rectosigmoid produce a watery diarrhea of such a chronic, persistent nature that the patient and his family learn to accept it. Furthermore, the etiology of the diarrhea is often difficult to establish by the usual technics. Many years after the onset of symptoms, the patient may suddenly collapse and be admitted to the hospital as a medical emergency, requiring vigorous metabolic therapy.
