Abstract
The paramagnetic resonance spectrum of VO2+, Cr3+ and Fe3+ in blue zoisite (tanzanite) shows these ions to substitute for Al3+ in two sets of very distorted octahedral sites. The spectra can be fitted with spin Hamiltonians of rhombic symmetry. Colour differences correlate with differences in the vanadium spectra. Keywords
