Abstract
Chloroquine has an affinity for melanin-bearing cells. The eyes and inner ear have such cells and damage due to chloroquine is reported in the eye and inner ear. Sensorineural deafness usually occurs following chloroquine therapy for prolonged periods. The patient, a 52 yr old male, developed severe bilateral irreversible sensorineural deafness after taking a single dose of 4 tablets of chloroquine (1.0 g) orally. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
