Unicompartmental Polycentric Knee Arthroplasty Description and Preliminary Results

Abstract
Polycentric knee arthroplasty has been in use at the Mayo Clinic for 4 years. Experience has revealed that some patients with unicompartmental disease are not suitable candidates for conventional reconstructive surgery or for total joint replacement. These patients have undergone insertion of polycentric components to both surfaces of one side of the joint, a procedure that we refer to as unicompartmental polycentric knee arthroplasty. This report describes the preoperative and postoperative evaluations, operative technique, preliminary results, and current indications.
