Abstract
The four primary causes of famine are droughts, pests and diseases affecting crops, wars and large-scale natural disturbances. Despite food surpluses in some countries, it is reasonable to expect more famines in the future. The basis of famine relief is to obtain and make available sufficient food to stop the famine, maintain the population in balance, and eventually rehabilitate it.
