Abstract
When stimulated with TSH, ovine thyroid cells in primary culture were able to iodinate thyroglobulin and produce thyroid hormone. In addition, there was an immediate greater than 2-fold stimulation of labeled sugar incorporation into thyroid glycoproteins. There was a parallel, but much less marked, increase in labeled amino acid incorporation into protein. We conclude that TSH control of thyroid hormone production may involve any stage in the biosynthesis of thyroglobulin, including that of glycosylation. Keywords
