Abstract
The goal of communications network design is to satisfy user requirements with the minimum amount of investment. This paper presents a method for the optimal design of ISDN's. First, three multiplexing systems that allow the integration of circuit- and packetswitching traffic are described. Then, a key design problem - bandwidth allocation and routing for integrated networks - is formulated, and efficient methods for its solution are presented. Keywords
