Abstract
The literature on the effects of morphine on digestive processes was reviewed and a tentative quantitative evaluation of the factors leading to the constipating effect given. A close relationship between the respiratory depressing effect and the effect on gastric secretion of HC1 was suggested. The unusual amounts of hydrochloric acid effectively separated by the closure of the pyloric sphincter was related to a high alkaline reserve and respiratory depression. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
