Abstract
Health care providers expressed a preference for working with elderly patients with disease-related symptoms. In comparing a description of two hospitalized patients, 275 health care providers also indicated that a patient with disease-related symptoms is more rewarding to work with than a patient with normal aging process symptoms. No response differences were found among physicians, nurses, and social workers. Concerns are raised regarding the quality of health care for elderly patients with normal aging process symptomatology.
