Abstract
Recent advances in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction (MI) have led to declines in hospital mortality.1,2 In addition, evidence has shown that quality improvement initiatives can increase the proportion of patients discharged with evidence-based therapies, particularly aspirin, β-blockers, and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors (statins).3,4 Despite this, the risk of recurrent events and mortality after the index MI hospitalization remains substantial during the following year.5
