On 23 May, Chinese researchers announced that they had found the virus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in civet cats, a species eaten as a delicacy in China. Just as the results were announced, a new cluster of 11 probable cases surfaced in Toronto, 2 weeks after the Canadian city had been declared SARS-free.
