Abstract
A discussion of some of the peculiarities of the geophysical sciences together with their implications for statistical methods, particularly for the correlation coefficient, is given. The discussion is illustrated by an analysis of a recently published paper. In conclusion some advice on the use of correlations is offered. DOI: 10.1111/j.2153-3490.1957.tb01897.xKeywords
