Abstract
The question of real vs. psychogenic pain is considered, and the importance of psychiatric counseling discussed. Hospital staff should also be advised by trained psychiatric personnel how to deal with countertransference. Flexible, eclective, and intensive therapy can certainly help the pain-prone patient. Keywords
