Abstract
In four cases, serious complications were encountered after the insertion of a central venous catheter into the subclavian veins. Pneumothorax developed in three patients and one had a hemothorax. Two patients who had massive pneumothorax died, the other two recovered. On the basis of the experience obtained by others and ourselves with the measurements of central venous pressure through catheters inserted via the subclavian vein, the abandonment of this technique has been recommended. Keywords
