Computer Optimization in Ion Chromatography

Abstract
The use of computer optimization techniques for selection of the optimal chromatographic conditions for an ion chromatographic separation is discussed. The terminology and strategies resulting from the use of computer optimization in reversed-phase HPLC are described, and areas in which these can be applied to ion chromatography are reviewed. It is shown that applications are quite restricted at the present time, but interpretive optimization procedures that are based on a suitable retention model hold promise for the future. Some retention models are reviewed, together with supporting experimental evidence for the validity of these models.
