Optical absorption studies of Co (CH3COO)2∙4H2O

Abstract
The absorption spectrum of Co(CH3COO)2∙4H2O has been studied at room temperature and at 78 °K. The cubic field approximation with Dq = 960 cm−1, B = 850 cm−1, and C = 4.5B is found to give a good fit to the observed band positions. The spin-forbidden transitions from the quartet ground state to upper doublet levels have been observed, and their intensities and positions are discussed.
