Abstract
The implementation of an immunization program in rural areas is affected by lacunae in the vaccine distribution system. A study conducted in India identified the extent to which irregular supply of vaccines has affected the immunization program. This study also identified other problem areas, such as a faulty cold chain and the need for an improved monitoring and control system and for better supervision. A model was designed to represent the immunization program and was used to assess the performance of the system under different supply conditions and operational policies. The study identified a number of improvements that could be made in the vaccine distribution system. Keywords
