Abstract
Amprolium, l-(4-amino-2-n-propyl-5-pyrimidinylmethyl)-2-picolinium chloride hydrochloride, was used in tests with 1 and 3-week-old chickens. These birds were given single inoculations of Eimeria tenella oocysts ranging from 1000 to 200,000 oocysts per bird. No bird receiving 0.0125% amprolium in mash died from coccidiosis. Moreover, cecal lesions in the medicated birds were minimal and there was no apparent interference with weight gain. The immunity resulting from the initial inoculation was challenged in a small number of birds from each principal group. Although the older birds were almost completely resistant to the second exposure, the degree of immunity developed by the younger birds was less pronounced. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
