Abstract
This review is concerned chiefly with the physiological aspects of respiratory regulation, with emphasis on the central mechanism. The review covers afferent pathways, central mechanisms and coordination of respiration. Against this background an attempt is made to analyze the validity of, and the necessity for, some of the concepts and generalizations that have been made concerning respiratory control. Keywords
