Abstract
The goal throughout this period was to understand the neural mechanisms mediating chemosensory responses and related behavior. At the same time, it was the behavior that was providing insight to the mechanisms. The behavioral approach was an exciting game of wits [emphasis added]. It proved to be a powerful tactic, and many of its findings were subsequently shown by electrophysiology to be gratifyingly accurate. --Dethier (1990)Keywords
