Superdeformation inPd104,105

Abstract
In the present Rapid Communication, we report the discovery of a rotational band in Pd105 and possibly one in Pd104 that can be interpreted as arising from superdeformed shapes. The moments of inertia, J(1) and J(2), of these bands are similar to those measured in the Ce-Nd region, once the A53 mass dependence is removed. This implies a deformation ε0.350.4. If so, this is the third mass region where superdeformed bands have been found at high spins.
