Carbamate-Type Insecticides for Control of Tobacco Budworm and Bollworm on Cotton12

Abstract
Insecticides of the methylcarbamate, dimethylcarbamate, and o-(methylcarbamoyl) oxime types were compared for effectiveness against larvae of the bollworm, Heliothis zea (Boddie), and the tobacco budworm, H. virescens (F.), in laboratory, field-cage, and field tests. Insecticides of the dimethylcarbamate and o-(methylcarbamoyl)oxime types were relatively ineffective. Matacil® (4-(dimethylamino)-m-tolyl methyicarbamate) and Zectran® (4-(dimethylamino)-3,5-xylyl methylcarbamate) of the methylcarbamate type gave 80% or better larval mortality of bollworms and tobacco budworms in the laboratory, and 90% or better mortality in field cages at 2.24 kg/hectare.
