Lineshape analysis of collision induced spectra of gases

Abstract
A procedure is presented for the analysis of collision induced lineshapes in terms of a two parameter model. The actual lineshape-function used involves a modified Bessel function of the second kind and is particularly suitable for the analysis of lines due to the overlap induction mechanism. The corresponding dipole is represented by two parameters as well, and it is shown that there is a one-to-one relationship between the empirical width parameter and the dipole range. Similarly the strength of the dipole can be related directly to the empirical intensity parameter. The procedure allows a very efficient way of analyzing induced spectra and is applied to a large number of spectra that have been reported in the literature.
