ACUTE HYPERTROPHIC OSTEO-ARTHROPATHY ASSOCIATED WITH SUBACUTE BACTERIAL ENDOCARDITIS

Abstract
A patient with valvular rheumatic heart disease is described in whom the onset of sub-acute bacterial endocarditis was associated with severe pain in the extremities. Roentgenograms of the long bones of the lower extremities are reproduced demonstrating marked perio-steal proliferation. The occurrence of acute hypertrophic osteo-arthropathy, as in this case, is emphasized as an aid in the clinical diagnosis of subacute bacterial endocarditis.
