Abstract
The correct interpretation of blood data obtained from anesthetized animals requires a knowledge of the changes produced by the anesthesia employed. Anesthesia by either nembutal or ether produced a hemodilution in the rat. Nembutal reduced the erythrocyte number from 8,530,000 to 7,376,000 and the specific gravity from 1.0603 to 1.0529. Ether reduced the erythrocyte number from 8,368,000 to 6,965,000 and the specific gravity from 1.0584 to 1.0521. This response appeared as soon as the rats were prostrate and all reflexes absent; it persisted only as long as the anesthesia was in effect. Keywords
