Abstract
In the classical analysis of nucleation of a crystalline phase from a fluid phase it is assumed that the nucleus is a perfect single crystal. In the present paper it is shown that ZnO fourlings almost certainly nucleate as fourfold twins. Alternative nucleation mechanisms are described which would account for a polycrystalline nucleus. Keywords
