Abstract
An investigation was made of the extent to which some previously published quantal response data, from experiments with tumor viruses, can be explained by the theory that tumor initiation is a random event. Data from experiments with the Rous sarcoma virus suggest that the chickens fell into two groups, differing widely in susceptibility. Experiments with Shope papilloma virus protein are more difficult to interpret. There were differences in susceptibility between animals, and some variation also was apparent between sites on a given animal.
