POSTURAL SWAY AND GAIT OF CHILDREN WITH CONVERGENT STRABISMUS

Abstract
SUMMARY Postural sway and gait of 35 children with convergent strabismus were tested and compared with those of a control group. They were found to have a short stride-length and single-limb support time in walking, particularly at slow speeds. The girls had a large postural sway, but not the boys. The results suggest a common visuomotor disturbance of eye and limb motor-control. II a été trouvé une longueur de pas et un temps portant sur un seul membre, tous deux courts au cours de la marche, particulièrement aux vitesses faibles. Les filles présentaient une oscillation posturale importante mais non les garçons. Les resultats suggèrent une perturbation commune à la visuo-motricité et au contrôle moteur des membres. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Halrungsabweichungen und Gang bei Kindern mil Strabismus convergens 35 Kinder mit Strabismus convergens wurden auf Haltungsabweichungen und Gang untersucht. Man fand, daß sie kurze Schritte machten und besonders beim langsamen Gehen eine kurze Standbeinphase hatten. Die Mädchen hatten deutliche Haltungsahweichungen, die Jungen dagegen nicht. Die Ergebnisse lassen vermuten, dap es sich um eine allgemeine visomotorische Störung des Auges und der motorischen Kontrolle der Extremitäten handelt. RESUMEN Oscilación postural y marcha en niños con estrabismo convergente Se examinó la oscilación postural y la marcha de 35 niños eon estrabismo convergente. Se halló que tenían una zancada corta y un corto apoyo sobre una extremidad al andar, sobre todo a poca veloddad. Las niñas tenían una oscilación postural grave, pero no los niños. Los resultados sugieren una alteración visomotora común en el control central del ojo y de la motilidad de las extremidades.
