Abstract
Meziocillin was given at a dose of 50mg/kg every 4h, intravenously over a period of 30 min to 25 children in order to treat 26 episodes of serious infections. Treatment was for 7 to 14 days. The micro-organisms isolated were: Staphylococcus aureus 9, Escherichia coli 4, Streptococcus pneumoniae 3, Klebsiella sp. 3, Salmonella typhi 2, Str. pyogenes 1, Salmonella sp. 1, Enierobacter I, Str. viridans 1. Twenty-three (88.4%) episodes of infection were cured clinically and bacteriologically, two improved and one failed. At the end of the iv infusion of the drug the mean concentration was 88.6% mg/l and at 4h 14 mg/l. One patient developed leucopenia, two neutropenia and one elevation of SGPT. These changes were transitory. Keywords
