Abstract
The connection between the linearized phonon collision operator and the Callaway model for it is clarified. A derivation of this model is given for the case of large departure from equilibrium, together with a modification in its interpretation. The amended model is applied to thermal conduction with large temperature gradients and to the problem of relaxation to equilibrium. Keywords
