Abstract
PNEUMATOSIS cystoides intestinalis is a rare condition characterized by the presence of gas-filled cysts involving the intestinal wall and its attachments. It is known under a variety of names: gas cysts of the intestine, pseudocyst and intestinal emphysema. The condition is so unfamiliar that in most cases it is diagnosed on the operating table. Since the etiology and natural evolution of this disease are not well understood, the therapeutic indications may be quite uncertain.In a review published in 1952 Koss1 gathered reports of only 213 cases of pneumatosis intestinalis from the world literature.
