Abstract
A modification is described of the method of LaDu and Michael for estimating the concentration of L-phenylalanine and L-tyrosine in the blood by oxidation with L-amino acid oxidase. The proteins of serum or plasma are removed in an ultra-filtration step that greatly reduces the nonspecific absorption, increasing the sensitivity and precision of the method. The ultrafiltrate is added to a composite reagent containing all other necessary components. The method can be applied to urine after removal of pigments with basic lead acetate. Keywords
