Abstract
In discussing the question of how many learning-disabled children there are, Helmer Myklebust has said, “Tell me how many you want to find and I'll write you a definition that will find that many” (McCarthy, 1968). This discussion takes a critical look at the assumptions underlying the learning disabilities field. Conclusions and implications regarding this relatively new category of exceptionality are discussed. Keywords
