Abstract
Hyperthermia is a promising potential modality for cancer therapy and consequently much research into the physiological effects of tumor heating is currently being undertaken. Crucial to these biological experiments and to the utlimate application of hyper-thermia-inducing devices is the ability to predict and control the resultant thermal fields. A candidate mechanism for the deposition of thermal energy at depth in tissue is the use of multiple focused microwave beams. The present paper describes thermal analysis and design calculations recently completed for an experimental dual-beam microwave applicator system currently being used in hyperthermia research. Limited comparisons to experimental observations are included. Keywords
