Abstract
It is shown that when the mean electromotive force in a plasma is evaluated in terms of the two‐point correlation of driven magnetic field fluctuations (as would be appropriate for problems related to current drive by waves), there is no β effect; i.e., the terms associated with gradients of the mean field vanish. The relevance of this result to the problem of current drive is discussed. Keywords
