Association of Giardia lamblia with Disease

Abstract
In parasitological examinations of 400 people near Phoenix, Arizona, during 1958 and 1959, 9,5% were found infected with G. lamblia. The attack rate with diarrhea among infected individuals was 21.1%, while the rate for those who were not infected was 7.5%. Although a cause and effect relationship between giardiasis and diarrhea is not necessarily demonstrated by these observations, diarrhea was reported much more frequently among persons with G. lamblia than among those not so infected.
