Abstract
PAGURITHERIUM (p.200), type P. alatum* (p.200), a parasitic isopod of the family Entoniscidae, is described and observations are recorded on its development and relation to the host. This parasite was found at Woods Hole, Mass., infecting the hermit crab Pagurus longicarpus. The infection rate with adult stages was 0.8%. Like other entoniscids it lives within the haemo-coel of the host but is peculiar in communicating with the exterior through an opening in the head or eyestalk of the crab. The genus is most closely related to Entoniscus.
