Abstract
Investigation of the physical, chemical and immunological properties of the glue elucidated the etiology of the disease and the physiopathology of the middle ear and of the Eustachian tube. The great viscosity of the glue was due to the presence of mucopolysaccharides. A number of immunoglobulins and lysozyme were found in the glue by immunoelectrophoresis and immunofluorescence. The etiology of glue ear is discussed, including the possibility of immunologic response to viral infection. Treatment of 50 glue ears in 30 children was done by intratympanic urea solution.
