Abstract
This paper uses the need hierarchy theory of Abraham Maslow (1970) to describe the stages in the adjustment process of new immigrants. This notion is then developed and applied to interpreting some longitudinal data on the changing needs of immigrants to Israel during the first two years after their arrival. Keywords
