Abstract
We consider optical amplifier noise in self-heterodyne optical mm-wave links, and propose that 0 dB noise figure can be achieved. We experimentally demonstrate 2.5 dB noise figure reduction for an Er-doped fibre amplifier (EDFA) using a tailored optical filter. Keywords
