Abstract
Large schizonts of Leucocytozoon sp. were found in kidney tissue of two drumming ruffed grouse shot in the aspen parkland of central Alberta. The schizonts were in advanced stages of development. Some appeared to have ruptured, releasing merozoites. These schizonts were similar in several respects to the megaloschizonts of L. simondi. Examination of sections of spleen, liver, lung, and brain failed to reveal large schizonts. Blood smears from one of the grouse contained numerous young gametocytes.
