Abstract
Problems do not magically cease when pupils leave full‐time education. When the Department of Adult Studies was set up in Harrow, one of the first worries to surface was the feeling of inadequacy experienced by part‐time tutors in the face of their students' problems. The students were men and women of all ages, and their problems ranged from medical to marital, financial to fostering, emotional to educational. They attended classes in a variety of non‐vocational subjects for a couple of hours each week. Keywords
