Deposition of C14-Labelled Cholesterol in the Atheromatous Aorta.

Abstract
By the use of C14-labelled cholesterol it has been observed that circulating cholesterol exchanges with the cholesterol found in the intima of the human aorta. This exchange is slow. The cholesterol pools in the form of plaques appear to exchange with the greatest difficulty. The media of the aorta showed throughout its length approximately the same cholesterol rate of exchange with the circulating cholesterol. A punched disk technique for assays of equal surface areas of the aorta was described.
