Abstract
The ozonation of 1,2 phenylenediamine (PDA) in aqueous solution is investigated in the pH range 1.7–8.1. Chemical analyses performed at varying ozonation times indicate that both PDA and monoprotonated PDA are sensitive to direct and radical ozonation mechanisms. Increasing competition of the radical mechanism is observed with decreasing pH. Main reaction steps regulating direct and radical process development are detailed. Keywords
