The Extra-osseous and Intra-osseous Blood Supply of the Talus

Abstract
The popliteal vessels were injected in 14 legs amputated for malignant disease of the thigh or pelvis. India ink and a micro-opaque suspension were injected to visualize the vascular network of the hind foot. The talus was supplied by the 3 main arteries of the leg through a periosteal vascular network. There were also 2 discreet nutrient vessels, an anterior artery of the sinus tarsus, and an artery in the tarsal canal arising from the posterior tibial artery.
