Dothistroma pini Hulbary: A New Disease on Pine in Britain

Abstract
Dothistroma pini Hulbary, not hitherto reported in Britain, is described. Since 1954, and possibly before this date, it has caused serious defoliation of nursery pine stock, particularly of Pinus nigra and P. ponderosa . It has been reported only from two nurseries both in the Wareham area, Dorset, but the reason for this extremely limited distribution is unknown. Attacks are worst in wet summers. Spore inoculations on potted plants gave severe infection.
